Spain is known for its variety of touristic cities and towns to visit. The distinctiveness of Each region is what makes it unique in many ways. One of these amazing places is Catalonia.

The first idea that comes to mind when hearing Catalonia is Barcelona, where in reality Catalonia has so much more to offer which varies, from mountains and forests to deserts and that makes a perfect trip to experience both lifestyles “the beautiful nature or the the hustle of busy cities”.  Here are 4 places near Barcelona that are worth visiting:

  1. Sitges

If you are into nightlife and sightseeing, then this is the place for you to visit. It has many historical places such as the “Casa Bacardi” which shows the history of the brand Bacardi and the beautiful church “Sant Bartemou I Santa Tecla de Sitges” which was built in the 14th and 15th century. Another thing Sitges is really famous for is its celebration of Carnival with its open and free vibes and this year it will be from the 20th till the 26th of February 2020.

Sitges is the LGBT city of Spain.

2. Montserrat

If you’re into hiking and visiting historical places, then this is the place for you. Montserrat also known as Catalonia’s most religious retreat, is located on a rocky mountain chain in Catalonia, and has a very calm and rich vibe where you instantly feel it once entering the city. The city is famous for its statue of the Virgin of Montserrat “Black Madonna”. Not to mention its amazing mountains that you can hike/climb, and has a very nice view of Catalonia.

3. Girona

Girona is one of the four provinces of Catalonia. The city is known for its narrow streets medieval walls, and filming sites. Where it has many historical places to visit such as the Jewish quarter; one of the best protected and preserved in the whole world. If you are a fan of the TV series game of thrones, then Girona is the perfect city for you to visit because of its many famous filming sites some of the scenes for Braavos, Old town and King’s Landing were shot there. Not to mention if you’re into photography, then you should definitely visit the north part of Girona “Figueres” which is the Capital of the Alt Empordà region.

If you consider yourself an explorer you should definitely visit this city!

4. Cadaqués

Is located in the northern end of the Costa Brava, known for its whitewashed architecture and famous for being a fishing village which has amazing summer days; that are usually very crowded. Cadaqués has many panoramic views that are so incredible and breath-taking. The city has many historical places to visit such as “Creus Natural Park” and “Gothic church of Santa María”. It is a very nice place to relax watch the boats go by while enjoying the sun.
